Sponsored by the Department of Energy, the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants program aims to enhance and modernize America’s power grid to withstand wildfires, extreme weather, and other natural disasters intensified by the climate crisis. This grant is designed for utilities to strengthen their infrastructure and improve resilience.
Each state, territory, and federally recognized Indian tribe has opened applications to electric utilities within their jurisdictions. The distribution of funds is based on a formula that considers factors such as population size, land area, the likelihood and severity of disruptive events, and historical mitigation expenditures. The funds can be used for a variety of projects, with a priority given to those that offer the most significant community benefits, specifically aimed at enhancing grid resilience.
Upcoming applications due dates:
- California – July 12, 2024
- Texas – June 28th, 2024
- Montana – June 24, 2024
- Illinois – June 24, 2024
Priority Projects
- Minimize disruptions from outages during weather events.
- Address outages in disadvantaged communities.
- Improve resilience to critical infrastructure that may be disrupted by outages.
How SGS can help
SGS has been partnering with various utilities to successfully secure the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants by proposing the deployment of Faulted Circuit Indicators (FCI). These FCI projects are crucial for quickly detecting faults, minimizing outage durations, and improving overall grid reliability. By collaborating with SGS, utilities can leverage our comprehensive grant expertise to ensure a successful application. Here’s how we can help:
- Navigating grants: We guide utilities through the complex grant application process.
- Writing the grant application: We take on most of the heavy lifting, crafting compelling and tailored applications.
- Consulting on the project after awarded: We provide expert consultation to ensure successful project implementation post-award.
- No cost: Our grant navigation, application writing, and consultation services are provided at no cost to utilities.
