SGS Secures Grant for Enhanced Grid Resilience Project

We are thrilled to announce that Smart Grid Solutions (SGS) has been awarded the community prize for our innovative proposal to enhance rural and remote electrical distribution systems. Our project centers around deploying a communicating fault indicating system, ensuring safer and more efficient energy distribution in rural areas.

This project will be a collaborative effort with Sioux Valley Energy (SVE) and Energy Product Sales (EPS). Together, we aim to work closely with the community to fortify the infrastructure of the current electrical grid, expedite the restoration of clean power sources, and minimize damage to and duress on equipment

The FI System, deployed on the utility’s distribution lines, uses a low-power cellular module to communicate data. This allows utilities to receive real-time information about fault events. The system is tailored to accommodate GIS, SCADA, or SMS/email communication, directing troubleshooters to the precise location of the fault. This significantly reduces the time and resources needed to reenergize unaffected segments and repair the affected equipment, enhancing grid performance and mitigating stress on the infrastructure.

The deployment of our FI System will improve the resilience and performance of the electrical distribution system for SVE and its communities. Designed to reduce the time and resources needed after fault events, our system boosts reliability and cost-effectiveness of the energy supply to rural and remote communities. The project’s success promises a replicable model for similar resiliency and clean energy improvement initiatives in other rural or remote communities.
